Does God Want Me To Bow Down Or Rise Up?

Hi Reader,

If you've been reading my newsletters lately, you know I'm focused on increasing your faith in God because it will greatly serve you in this life, and the next.

As I continue growing my faith, many questions are coming up and my confusion over what God wants for us is providing inspiring revelations that I never picked up during my conservative Lutheran upbringing.

So, I'd like to share some of the "concerns" I've been having with God and the answers I believe he is providing.

These insights are helpful for all.

Yet, they are especially needed for business owners and entrepreneurs because our internal conflicts sabotage growth and goal attainment much more than not having the right marketing tactics.

"Does God want us to be all we can be, or does Jesus want us to let go of all that and be humble servants? It feels like a contradiction."

The Bible does seem to present both ideas.

On the one hand, we are called to maximize our God-given potential. But, we are also instructed to increase humility and servanthood.

The big AH-HA moment was realizing that rather than being a contradiction, these ideas complement each other.

The Bible encourages us to maximize our talents, but not so that we feel powerful, which can lead to arrogance and corruption. But, instead, to honor God by using our gifts for the benefit of others.

Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Colossians 3:23 - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

2 Timothy 1:6 - "Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you."

These verses suggest that God has given us unique talents and abilities and expects us to use them for His glory. In that sense, we should strive to be the best versions of ourselves.

But what about Jesus asking us to be humble servants?

Matthew 23:11-12 - "The greatest among you will be your servant. Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Mark 10:45 - "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Philippians 2:3-4 - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Instead, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your interests but each of you to the interests of the others."

Jesus modeled servant leadership, showing that true greatness comes from selfless love rather than personal ambition.

The most effective business leaders I've met were always "people-focused" and transformational rather than "profit-focused" and transactional.

I think the key to understanding this is motive and purpose.

God wants us to grow, develop, and succeed, but not for our ego or status. Instead, our personal growth should be rooted in serving others and glorifying God through your success.

After winning the Super Bowl this year, the head coach of the Eagles football team was caught on camera thanking Jesus.

While during the Golden Globe Awards this year, the host noted that nobody thanked God for their accomplishments that night. Shortly after, wildfires broke out in the Palisades.

Coincidence?

Being all that you can be doesn’t mean chasing success for selfish reasons; it means stewarding your talents, working hard, and living with integrity, all while maintaining a humble, servant-hearted attitude.

Humility and excellence coexist beautifully when we focus on serving God and others rather than just our fleshly desires.

My selfish nature was always afraid that if I did everything to benefit others, what would be in it for me?

It's embarrassing to admit that, yet to my sheer delight, I've realized that every time I do something selflessly for the good of others with no strings attached, I end up feeling pure JOY.

What a devine system this is and there's no way that this developed within us because of evolution because Darwin's theory was based on the survival of the fittest and not on love and kindness.

It's just more proof that God is real, his approach is exceedingly better than ours, and when you follow him, you will WIN far more than by anything else you could do on your own.

That has been especially true in my marriage and business.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this...

God bless you!

:) Tim

Hi Reader, Lately, I've been coaching youth athletes, which I enjoy because upgrading their beliefs and skills at a young age helps them avoid needless suffering as they progress through life. It's also fun for me because I experience the innermost thoughts of tough competitors. The kids brought to me, whether in college or middle school, are very accomplished. I've coached those in martial arts who placed in world championships. Others have gotten full college scholarships, ranked #1 in the...

Hi Reader, Today I’ve officially taken 55 trips around the sun! Turning 55 feels like one of those significant milestones in life, and now that AARP is stalking me to join and I'm old enough to live in the wild Del Webb senior villages in Florida, I've noticed that: I now make noises when I stand up for no apparent reason. I can pull a muscle just sleeping wrong. I hear myself telling my teenager, "When I was your age..." I genuinely appreciate the value of a nap! But getting older also comes...

Hi Reader, I'm reading a book called Courage and Confidence from the Bible by Walter Moore. A passage says, "I'm watching a workman, and I almost thought he was confused, until I learned that he was not building a table, but rather a bookshelf. Mistaking his purpose, I could see no reason for his actions. So it is difficult for us to see that 'all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose,' until we discover that his purpose is to...
